It was a great Hari Raya celebration with my drumming master once again. We have known each other for about 10 years since I started learning the drums with Master-Uncle Kamal. He’s a great teacher that teaches good drumming skills to me.

When we arrived at his house, he were playing a show at the Istana Melaka in Bukit Beruang. Of course, we started enjoying the food. They cooked good food and we really enjoyed the rendang, lemang and others… Yummmmmmyyyyy!!!!

We thought of leaving after enjoying the food, then this is the time I received a call from Uncle Kamal saying that he’s coming back now. Ok cool, we waited for him to come back from the Istana Melaka. It took about half and hour to arrive from Istana Melaka.
While waiting for Uncle Kamal to back home, we started jamming with his drums set. I take the opportunity to snap a photo with Uncle Kamal’s youngest son. When I knew this little boy, he was still a baby boy, now he’s following his dad’s profession. Indeed, I’m very very touch!
I also took a photo with Uncle Kamal’s eldest son, which plays a lot of fusion style music. His drumming skills are damm good. If you’re looking for a modern style drummer teacher, I’ll recommend you to him. He learn a lot by himself, digging the hole of drumming by himself. His passion towards drumming world is superb!
Finally, Uncle Kamal is back from Istana Melaka. We started to chit-chat like usual. We started to reflect back what was the age I known him and started learning drumming from him. It was all the way back when I was 11-12 years old, I started learning drumming with Uncle Kamal. Now, I’m 22 years old. Wow! It has been 10 years we have met each other. I couldn’t believe it!
Uncle Kamal told us that he’ll be performing on Raya Day 1 (01-10-2008) @ Dataran Pahlawan Melaka and the music that his group is performing is “asli” music. We were so curious about the music that he’s going to perform. Without waiting, he get his percussion kits and started to show it to us. It was a great fun having to hear Uncle Kamal hit the drum again.
Ahhh… this is a Arabic percussion kit. I’ve seen him playing this kit last 2 years back during Raya time too. The sound that came out from his hand is really different from what we hit. Really…..!!
My brother took the opportunity to learn about this indian-style percussion. It’s really hard to play as you need a lot of strength from your fingers and palm.
Of course, I also tried to hit the Arabic percussion. The sound that came out is really different from the sound of the master! I must practice very hard and mould my percussion skill then!
Can you see how fast and how hard the fingers & palms to hit this small thing? I must work hard in percussion-ing instead of drumming!

As usual, we took a photo of Uncle Kamal’s family as a memory.
We snap a group photo together by using the Sony Alpha a200 timer mode. Ahhh….. my face blocked the faces!
It was a great time together and Hari Raya to all of us on the Hari Raya Day One.. Great Photos with Sony Alpha A200!
