SATURDAY 14TH FEBRUARY 2009: An International Kite Festival 2009 was organized by the Kelab Layang Layang Zon Tengah Semenanjung Malaysia today opposite The Eyes on Melaka, Kota Laksamana, Melaka. The International Kite Festival was sponsored by the State Government and fully supported by the Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Mohd. Ali bin Mohd Rustam. However, the Chief Minister was represented by YB Datuk Tahir bin Hj. Hassan, Timbalan Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Negeri Kerja Raya dan Kemudahan Awam, d/a Kompleks JAPERUN Paya Rumput, Km 11, Jalan Cheng, 75250 Melaka to attend the International Kite Festival Melaka 2009 and deliver the speech of The Melaka Chief Minister.
The International Kite Festival 2009 was officiated by YB Datuk Tahir bin Hj. Hassan a Traditional WAU was launched in the sky by YB Datuk Tahir bin Hj. Hassan.
There are total 19 participants from foreign countries, while 19 from local states.
Foreign Countries: 6 participants from Macau, 8 participants from Thailand, 3 participants from Korea, & 2 from Bali.
Local States: 5 participants from Melaka, 5 participants from Selangor, 2 participants from Kuala Terengganu, 4 participants from Pulau Pinang and 3 participants from Johor.
Kelab Layang Layang Zon Tengah Semenanjung Malaysia is hoping to organize a bigger International Kite Festival in the future that involves more foreign countries and local states.
